that is part of the MPEG-2 standard - available in three profiles:
Main, Low Complexity (LC) and Scaleable Sampling Rate (SSR), with
Main providing the highest quality
AAL - ATM Adaption Layer - The part of the ATM protocol
that breaks up application packets into 48-byte payloads which become
ATM cells when the 5-byte headers are attached. The AAL resides
between the higher layer transport protocols and the ATM layer.
The AAL is comprised of two layers: Convergence Sublayer (CS) and
Segmentation & Reassembly Sublayer (SAR)
ACPI - Advanced Configuration and Power Interface
- power management specification developed by Intel, Microsoft,
and Toshiba. It enables the operating system to control the amount
of power given to each device attached to the computer

from Microsoft that is designed as the Microsoft standard for data
access. First used with Internet Information Server, it is expected
to become available for all Microsoft programming languages and
applications
ADSL - Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line - shares
the same line as the telephone, because it uses higher frequencies
than the voice band - but a POTS splitter must be installed on the
customer's premises to separate the line between voice and ADSL
(a version of ADSL, known as G.lite, Universal ADSL, ADSL Lite and
splitterless ADSL, is geared to the consumer and eliminates the
splitter, but all phones on the line must plug into low-pass filters
to isolate them from the higher ADSL frequencies)
AGP - Accelerated Graphics Port - bus specification
that enables 3D graphics to display quickly on ordinary PCs
AIN - Advanced Intelligent Network - enables service
providers to define, test and introduce new multimedia messaing,
PCS, and cell routing (introduced by AT&T Network Systems in
1991)

a general purpose chip such as a microprocessor).
ASP - Active Server Pages - a server-side scripting
platform supported by Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS)
that provides the same functionality as CGI scripts and is useful
