BCF - Backup Control Facility
BFT - Binary File Transfer - An extension
to the fax protocol that allows transmission of raw data. A page
of text is transmitted faster than a bitmap of the page and is displayed
at normal printer resolution at the receiving side
BGA - Ball Grid Array - package for large
die semiconductor chips
BGP - A routing protocol that is used
to span autonomous systems on the Internet. It is a robust, sophisticated
and scalable protocol that was developed by the Internet Engineering
Task Force (IETF). BGP4 supports the CIDR addressing scheme, which
has increased the number of available IP addresses on the Internet.
BGP was designed to supersede EGP, the orginal exterior gateway
protocol. It is also known as a path vector protocol
BLT - synonym for blit - refers to any
bit-field copy or move operation
BS - Broadcast Satellite
BT - British Telecom - The telephone
and communications carrier that provides services in Great Britain
and Northern Ireland
BTA - Basic Trading Area - usually composed
of several contiguous counties. BTAs are a service area designed
by Rand McNally and adopted by the FCC. There are 493 BTAs in the
US.
