UDP - User Datagram Protocol - a connectionless
protocol that, like TCP, runs on top of IP networks. UDP/IP provides
very few error recovery services, offering instead a direct way
to send/receive datagrams over an IP network. It is used primarily
for broadcasting messages over a network.
UHF - Ultra High Frequency - referring
to radio channels in the 300Mhz to 3Ghz band
ULS - Univeral Licensing System - the
new Wireless Telecommunications Bureau program under which electronic
filing of license applications and reports of changes to licenses
creates a database that can be accessed remotely for searches
UMA - Unified Memory Access - single
access model for memory which supports multiple purposes in a PC
such as system memory and graphics memory
UMTS - Universal Mobile Telecommunications
System - UMTS is a member of the IMT-2000 family and will be a replacement
for the GSM generation of mobile communications technology.

used to identify Webpages and other info on the Internet
USB - Universal Serial Bus - external
bus that supports data transfer rates of 12 Mbps (12 million bits/second)
USTA - US Telephone Association - association
that provides a forum for information dissemination and exchange

UTP - Unshielded Twisted Pair - Twisted
pair is a thin-diameter wire commonly used for telephone and network
cabling. The wires are twisted around each other to minimize interference
from other twisted pairs in the cable. Twisted pairs have less bandwidth
than coaxial cable or optical fiber. Twisted pair cables are available
unshielded (UTP) or shielded (STP). UTP is the most common.
UWC-136 - a third generation wireless
standard proposal based on TDMA technology that was developed by
the Universal Wireless Communications Consortium and is one of the
3G candidates submitted to the International Telecommunications
Union (ITU) by the US
UWCC - Universal Wireless Communications
Consortium - an industry group supporting ANSI-136 time division
multiple access (TDMA) and ANSI-41 wireless intelligent network
