We are long time users of Nikon equipment. Having
made the transition to digital some 4 years ago we are now on the
fifth set of digital equipment. We have just moved from 2 Nikon
D1X's, to using 3 Fuji S2 bodies. In conjunction with an inventory
of 7 Nikon lenses and flash equipment, there is much to select from
on each shoot.
Digital Storage and Processing
In spite of having shot many thousands of images with
both film and digital it is an understatement to say that the learning
process is continuing. With digital the process only beings when
the picture is taken. We have two computer systems configured for
image storage and processing. Online storage on these machines is
½ TB. Our current most used software includes:
- Adobe Photoshop
Plugins:
- Color Mechanic by Digital Light and Color
- Intellihance by Extensis
- nik Sharpener
- iCorrect by Pictographics
- Test Strip by Vivid Details
- ThumbsPlus by Cerious Software
- Qimage by Digital Domain
Nearly all the photo screening, simple transformations
and cropping is done with ThumbsPlus. It is a first class program.
Adobe Photoshop is essential software for digital
photography. Everything else in this category pales in comparison.
New plugins continue to come out which make the job of creating
first class images easier and of higher quality. Currently we find
Color Mechanic a superb plugin for color adjustments.
Qimage is the best software for multiple image printing.
Single large sheet prints can be done easily with Photoshop but
when more is required Qimage is excellent.
